Fifty Years of Admission Exams and Gaps in College Access in Chile
Abstract
'This paper documents the dramatic expansion of educational opportunities over the past five decades in Chile, the fastest-growing country in Latin America. Utilizing historical and administrative data, it identifies significant progress in closing gender, ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic gaps in college access. The study finds reductions in the gender gap in test scores, increased participation of low-SES and indigenous students, and greater geographic representation in college exams, while highlighting areas for continued improvement.'
